It takes more force
to get an object moving than it does to keep it moving. Our lives are the same
way. The most difficult
part of making a change is to first get started.
Once we do that, the
momentum begins to build naturally, and it becomes a matter of time and
patience.
I talk to people every
day who tell me that they know what they want to do but they just don’t know
how to get started. I explain that incremental
steps lead to permanent change so just choose something small and start doing
it today. Think of one simple thing you can do to change and do it now.
Don’t wait for
tomorrow. Don’t make an elaborate plan just start taking some kind of action.
Follow this guideline:
- Name one area
that you want to improve.
- Ask yourself,
“What is the smallest step I could possibly take to begin turning this around?
- Do that today.
- Pat yourself on
the back for your small victory.
- Take that
motivation and good feelings into tomorrow.
- Stay in motion. Continue
taking action incrementally.
- Once you have consistency, you can choose something else to work on.
In words, it’s simple
– almost too simple but you need to put
it into action.
You need to actually
practice turning your life around and moving it in a new direction one step at
a time. Get things
in motion to make the change, not next week but today!
